Firefighters Work For 7 Hours To Save Horse Trapped In Frozen Canal

A dedicated team of firefighters and volunteers in Marion, Montana work through the night to save a horse in distress. It is unclear the amount of time the horse named Henry was trapped in the frozen canal before rescuers found him, but it was clear the horse needed help immediately, exhausted from trying to escape the frozen canal, Henry was showing symptoms of hypothermia and time was running out to save the horses life.

The Firefighters first attempted to lift Henry out, but when that didn`t work, they needed to reassess the situation and come up with a new plan. Fire Chief Katie Mast told MTN News, "We had to break a lot of ice and some dirt to get to him and then his front legs kept kind of going under the ice, we finally got the front part of his body out and then his rear legs would go underneath the ice buildup, so we kind of had to build a bridge across and lift him straight up."

It took the team a lot of work to free the horse from the frozen ice but after seven hours Henry was free. Even though He was free from the frozen canal, Henry was extremely weak and suffering from hypothermia and severe fatigue. Henry was transferred to a veterinary clinic in Kalispell and thanks to the dedication of the team to save the horse he is expected to make a full recovery.
